Reading is one of the most efficient ways to absorb a language — as long as you can follow what's happening. That's the whole idea behind graded readers. When you understand almost everything on the page, say 95% or more, your brain can work out the rest from context, and that's the moment real learning happens. Every Taleivo book is written to a single CEFR level so it stays in that sweet spot: challenging enough to stretch you, easy enough to enjoy.

Vocabulary sticks because you meet words the way your brain likes to learn them — many times, in different situations, inside a story you care about. A word you'd forget from a flashcard becomes hard to forget when it belongs to a character you're rooting for. And because each book keeps to a controlled vocabulary, the most useful words come back again and again, so they move into long-term memory almost without effort on your part.

Grammar works the same way. Instead of memorising rules, you see the same patterns used correctly hundreds of times until they simply start to sound right — which is exactly how you learned your first language. Across a whole book the shape of the language settles in quietly, and you begin to feel what's correct rather than having to reason it out.

The plot is doing more work than it looks. A story with real stakes pulls you forward, so you read more — and volume is what drives progress. Twenty pages you enjoy teach you far more than two pages you grind through. That's why we obsess over writing genuinely good stories rather than exercises dressed up as fiction: the better the story, the more you read, the faster you improve.

To get the most from them: pick a level you can read comfortably, read for pleasure rather than perfection, and resist stopping at every unknown word — let the story carry you and guess from context.
